It is with a sad heart I write to inform you and the members of the BSNR of the death of Dr Nick Messios, consultant neuroradiologist to the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. As many members will know Nick has quietly and courageously fought a long and hard battle against cancer. This battle ended last Saturday morning. Nick was a stalwart of Leicester radiology for many years. He will be remembered with great affection and respect by generations of radiologists who have trained in Leicester, and consistently voted the ‘neuro’ attachment into first place. He will also be remembered by his colleagues in neuroradiology, neurology, neurosurgery and ENT both here in Leicester, and also in Nottingham where he had strong professional links and many friendships.
It was Nick’s wish to be buried in Cyprus. I will inform members of the Society if there is to be a Service of Thanksgiving for his life, here in Leicester.
In remembering Nick, I am reminded of what Winston Churchill once said: – We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.
